Science, Religion, Myth and Comfort
The following arguments in the presented video show the foolishness of what Neil Tyson calls “the God of the gaps”, showing that God can only be imagined in the gaps of our knowledge and so why imagine God at all.
There is another idea about God that is founded on the fact that virtues are a part of the process of meeting the needs of individuals, our species, and life itself. It is “the God of the imprint” the pattern of communications essential to meeting human needs, the means of achieving and demonstrating love.
You don’t have to believe in the God of the imprint it’s just the experiencing of what you find when you put such communication into practice. God in this sense is an experience and not a way of explaining the universe, and leaves ample space for scientific thought.
The God of the imprint is more than just the awe comfort and terror of what we call wonder, it is the sense of comfort that the experience affords, and the joy found in the vision of a better world that can bring humanity together.
The implementation of objectivity, empathy, and creativity, in comforting communication with the emotional or motivational core of our sense of personality, is also healing of the sense of helplessness that stands in the way of our optimism our urge to improve our lives, the lives of others, and the lives of future generations.
