Happy 4th of July!
Happy 4th of July!
From the beginning our nation has taken the greatest, and even the worst, of the past and turned it into the best, the most progressive, the most optimistic realities our imaginations could conceive. We have battled those who would drag us into the doldrums of the past, the oppressive backwardness that so often holds the world back from it’s greater potential.
We have won many more battles than the battle for independence, and we have been the life of progress, and the steady glow of enlightenment for much of the world, truly a fire of hope that has lit many lights now set high on the hills of virtue and optimism around the world.
“Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free;
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore,
Send these, the homeless,
Tempest-tossed to me
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”
Now a fresh wave of hopeful formerly oppressed hard working people yearning to breathe free in our nation await an immigration bill that is fair and just and leads to citizenship and full participation in all we hold dear in this great nation. Let us consider our promise on the Statue of Liberty. God isn’t just watching what we do now, he is waiting to bless us beyond our greatest dreams. Let us embrace those brave enough to risk death and imprisonment to honor our nation and our flag, those who only want to work hard and be a shoulder helping to move the wheel of our nation’s progress.
We were all immigrants, we originally all came uninvited and often unwelcome, so let us remember to what was said long ago “and forgive us our transgressions, as we forgive those who transgress against us”. Yet immigration has never been a blight on our nation, rather it has been our life and it’s hope.
Act now to support a fair and just immigration bill that gives a path to citizenship, in honor of our flag, our nation, it’s independence, and it’s promise to the world.
