In Memory of Eddie Darnell
In Memory of Eddie Darnell,
Heavy heart singing in the darkness, distant cries to a numb heart, despair swallowing the sun, light halos over dire shadows, the echoes of rushing torrents shaking the comforting ground, my youngest, my last uncle, has left this world, tears falling like soft rain, other hearts to comfort, and the sun still rises…
Eddie Darnell, beloved son of Brooksie and Tommy Darnell, has died. He died on the day of my father’s birthday. Say a prayer for a humble man, who served his country in the Navy, who worked as a police officer, who was a business man, a wonderful family man, a man devoted to his wife. Say your prayer softly say it thoughtfully and if you knew him remember the warmth of his smile.
I only saw my uncle a few times in my life, I don’t remember when he was only 15 and baby sat me, the memories are of long ago, but my mother, his sister, treasured him and spoke of him and wished him always well. When families drift away from each other, death brings them near and reminds that family is forever.
May the tender wounded hearts of those who loved him and had the gift of knowing him well, remember his smile, and let his smile be the beginning of a warming morning sun slowly rising, gently, slowly.
May the love of your family Eddie, gently guide, and the arms of the Love that embraced your birth, welcome you home.
Where the sun is always shining and darkness never comes, where the song of the victory of love, sings always to every heart, I see you walking there along a warm shining path, you turn, smile and wave. Good bye Eddie, we will all meet again.
